QUALIFYING ROUND RECAP (VIDEO's BELOW)
OVERALL: This was such a fun and exciting opportunity! Although I missed the cut, I feel it was easily within my grasp if I hadn't lost my swing 2 days before. This was a shock as I have been swinging so solid and consistent for the last couple months. Thanks to my short game, I only missed the cut by 5 strokes. The day before was the practice round and I was fighting a 2 way miss. A pull hook and a push slice. Not something I wish on any golfer the day before a qualifier. I thought I worked most of it out on the range the night before, but I would say I started off with a D- swing, found a C+ swing after 5 holes, and got around the course to shoot a 73. I can't wait for the Georgia Amateur and Georgia Match play!
SOME HOLE BY HOLE RECAP
HOLE 10 (I started on the backside):
Hole 10 is a downhill par 4, slight dogleg right, 403 yard hole. There are traps on the left and a large tree and trap on the right. There is also a creek on the right side of the fairway about 280 yards out.
HOW I PLAYED IT:
In the practice round I hit my driver over all the trouble and had about 65 yards left. The day of the tournament, I decided to hit a 3 wood that went right and was sitting behind the tree on the side of a steep mound. I tried to hit a low punch under the branches and over the creek to leave myself 10 yards left of the green for a short easy up and down. Unfortunately, the side hill caught the heel of my iron, shut the face and it didnt clear the creek. I dropped about 70 yards out and stuck a wedge to 2 feet to make a bogey. I felt really good walking off the green that 2 bad shots only cost me a bogey.
Below is my first swing at a USGA qualifying event!
